At data.to.design, we’re committed to empowering designers with the tools they need to bring real content to their designs. As the only Figma plugin that seamlessly integrates your databases directly in Figma, we’re constantly refining and enhancing our platform. Here’s a quick look at the newest features and updates that can help take your design process to the next level…
1. Update datasets directly in the plugin
Say goodbye to toggling between plugin and web app! You can now upload CSV and JSON files straight from the plugin to create or sync your datasets. This means fewer steps, more efficiency and a smoother workflow.
2. Custom API (JSON only)
If you’re on our Team plan, you can now connect your designs to live data with ease! Our new custom API feature lets you create datasets from live APIs, fetching results in real time. Whether you’re working with a CMS or another live data source, this feature ensures your designs are always up to date. Learn more about this feature here.
3. Import and apply colors
Add some color to your data—literally! Now you can import color data from your database and map those colors directly to your Figma content. This feature ensures your designs maintain a consistent visual identity with your database.
4. Performance boost for large documents
Working on complex Figma files with thousands of instances? We’ve overhauled how we query components and instances, moving from a blocking method to an asynchronous process. The result? A 100x improvement in speed for some documents and a seamless, crash-free experience.
5. Real-time component updates
Keep your design process rolling! Now, any changes you make to components while the plugin is open will be reflected instantly. No more restarting the plugin to see updates—it’s all happening in real time.
6. Better visualization for nested data
Navigating nested data just got a whole lot easier. We’ve improved the way nested data is displayed across the plugin, making it simpler to group, explore and map complex datasets efficiently.
7. Overall tweaks and enhancements
We’ve also been busy refining the little details that make a big difference:
- Improved CSV and spreadsheet imports to better handle empty lines, duplicate headers and missing data.
- Smarter error handling and validation for both Google Sheets and CSV uploads.
- Enhanced UI in the mapping editor for a cleaner, more intuitive experience.
What’s next? Share your ideas!
These updates are all about making your design process faster, smarter and more powerful. We want to make it as seamless as possible to design with real content directly from your CMS or database.
If you haven’t already, try out some of these new updates and let us know what you think. We’d also love to hear your feedback and ideas for future features. Have a suggestion? Get in touch and tell us about it!
